Ultrasonography is a noninvasive imaging technique using sound waves to allow rapid visualization of internal organs - the heart, kidneys, liver, pancreas, spleen and bladder most readily. Our patients with heart problems, abdominal pain, acute or chronic diseases most often benefit from these imaging techniques.
Pets rarely if ever need sedation for this testing, they are placed in our quiet, low-lit diagnostics suite on their back in a cushioned "cradle" to support them during the exam.
After images are gathered we can forward them to specialists via the internet. This support group of Veterinary Cardiologists and Internists reads the images and consults back with us within hours in many cases. Telemedicine is a growing area of medicine in veterinary care as it offers a virtual "team" of specialists evaluating you pets condition.
Ultrasound technology can also enable us to biopsy suspect organs. Using a needle we can obtain an organ sample for further testing, offering our pets a bloodless surgery without the pain, risk or recovery time.
We are proud to have Dr. Parker specially trained in ultrasound and available at a moments notice when this service is needed.
